Monday

Sorry for the delay, things got busy once we got here (spoiler alert: we made it!).

Monday was spent primarily in Nebraska still, though a few interesting things came up along the way. Then we were into Wyoming.

Wyoming was the state I was looking forward to seeing, I am not sure why, I guess b/c it seemed to be the most exotic and potentially interesting place along the way. Especially after BORING NEBRASKA. And I guess I was right, it was very pretty and there were some interesting things to see. It reminded me of Indiana Jones. I had a goal to see a tumble weed and I kind of saw one crash into a fence so I guess that was good enough.

I had a lofty goal to make it to Salt Lake City, but when it became apparent it would take until at least midnight and there was literally NOTHING in Wyoming, we decided to stop in the next town we saw, Rawlins. This was an extremely interesting town, and the sociologist in me wishes I could have stayed longer.

There was an oil refinery there, and a bunch of new hotels and restaurants right off the Highway, However, a mile or so back there was an old looking mining town. We went to a convenience store to get some wine and talked to the guy who worked there for a while. He said pipe fitting was growing there and a lot of people were moving in. He said all the development was driving up the rent for the people who had lived there forever and it was not good for locals. This town was in the Rocky Mountains and we had a beautiful view of the sunset as we ate some Dominoes in the hotel room.
